Adam Fath is a Registered Psychotherapist (RP #10906) serving clients in Tavistock and across Oxford County. In-person sessions are available in Mount Elgin, and secure virtual therapy is offered throughout Ontario.

Tavistock is a small village -- just over 3,000 people -- with deep agricultural roots, a strong sense of tradition, and a community that's been here a long time. That tight-knit quality is one of the reasons people love it. It can also make seeking support feel complicated. When everyone knows everyone, it's easy to assume your struggles are visible, or that reaching out will somehow change the way people see you.
In recent years, Tavistock has also seen an influx of people moving out from Kitchener-Waterloo and Woodstock, drawn by housing prices and the promise of a quieter life. For those newcomers, the transition isn't always easy. The community has its own rhythms and its own history, and fitting in can take longer than expected -- especially through a long Ontario winter when outdoor life slows down and the social calendar empties out.
For longtime residents and newcomers alike, the commute is a real factor. Many people drive 45 minutes to Kitchener-Waterloo or 25 minutes to Woodstock for work every day, which leaves little margin for anything else by the time they're home. Therapy tends to be one of the first things that gets pushed aside when life is full -- and one of the last things people think to prioritize.
Therapy is not about fitting you into a predetermined framework. It is about creating a space where you can explore your experiences, understand the patterns that shape your life, and discover what meaningful change looks like for you.
My approach emphasizes genuine connection, careful listening, and collaborative exploration. Together, we work at a pace that respects your comfort while gently encouraging growth.

Someone might begin therapy feeling overwhelmed by constant work pressure and unable to relax even during quiet moments. In therapy we might explore the patterns behind that stress and develop ways to create healthier boundaries between professional responsibilities and personal wellbeing.
Someone who relocated to Tavistock a year or two ago -- drawn by the lower housing costs and the idea of a slower pace -- and finds themselves feeling more isolated than they anticipated. The quiet they were looking for has turned into a kind of loneliness, and the community connections they hoped would develop haven't quite materialized yet. Winter stretches things out further. In therapy, we'd explore what's underneath the low mood, what they actually need to feel grounded, and how to start building a life here that feels like their own -- rather than just surviving until spring.
Drive Time
About 35-40 minutes
Via
Highway 59 through Woodstock
Parking
Free on-site
The practice is at 20 Berardi Crescent in Mount Elgin -- about a 35 to 40-minute drive from Tavistock. The most direct route takes you south on Highway 59 through Woodstock, then west on Highway 401, and onto local roads into Mount Elgin. There's free parking right at the door, and the setting is quiet and residential -- nothing clinical about it. Given the distance, virtual sessions are especially worth considering. Many Tavistock clients choose to do therapy by video, particularly during the winter months or on weeks when the commute to work has already taken its toll. There's no difference in quality between virtual and in-person -- and for a lot of people, doing a session from home removes the last barrier that was keeping them from starting.
Tavistock residents can access therapy through in-person sessions at the Mount Elgin practice or, given the distance, many prefer secure virtual appointments that fit more easily into a commute-heavy lifestyle.
Private psychotherapy isn't the right fit for every situation, and some circumstances call for a different kind of support. If you're in crisis or need immediate help, these Tavistock-area resources are available:
Community mental health services.
OHIP-covered outpatient psychiatric care and crisis response.
Free single-session counselling at Woodstock Hospital, Thursdays noon-6pm (pre-book at 519-421-4211 ext. 3224).
For all emergencies, please call 911.
Each 50-minute session is $165. This is an insurable service -- most extended health benefit plans cover Registered Psychotherapist services. You will receive a professional receipt after each session to submit to your provider for reimbursement.
A complimentary 20-minute consultation is available to discuss your needs and determine whether we are a good fit. View full fee details and credentials.
