Dorchester has a particular kind of identity tension baked into it. People move here for the slower pace -- the quiet streets, the manageable size, the sense that neighbours still know each other's names. And then, almost immediately, the daily commute to London begins. For many residents, life in Dorchester means mentally living in two places at once: a small village in the evenings and on weekends, and a city professional the rest of the time.
That pull creates real strain. The residential growth Thames Centre has seen over the past decade has changed Dorchester's character in ways that are hard to name but easy to feel -- new subdivisions, longer traffic queues on Dorchester Road, the gradual erosion of the "everybody knows you" atmosphere that drew people here in the first place. You wanted small-town life, and you're getting it, sort of, while also carrying the pressures of a full urban career. That disconnect between the life you imagined and the one you're actually living is one of the most common things people bring to therapy.
If you're a Dorchester resident feeling stretched thin -- by the commute, by the busyness of a growing community, by the gap between where you live and where you work -- therapy can help you figure out what's actually going on and what, if anything, you want to change.
Therapy is not about fitting you into a predetermined framework. It is about creating a space where you can explore your experiences, understand the patterns that shape your life, and discover what meaningful change looks like for you.
My approach emphasizes genuine connection, careful listening, and collaborative exploration. Together, we work at a pace that respects your comfort while gently encouraging growth.

Someone might begin therapy feeling overwhelmed by constant work pressure and unable to relax even during quiet moments. In therapy we might explore the patterns behind that stress and develop ways to create healthier boundaries between professional responsibilities and personal wellbeing.
Daniel started noticing it about three months after he took the new job in London -- a good job, the kind he'd worked toward. The commute was only 45 minutes each way, which everyone told him was fine, perfectly manageable. And technically, it was. But Sunday evenings had changed. He used to like Sundays. Now, somewhere around four in the afternoon, a familiar tightness would settle in. Not quite dread, but close. By the time Monday morning came, he was already running on fumes before the week had started. In sessions, Daniel started to see that the commute itself wasn't really the problem. It was what the commute represented -- a version of his life that felt slightly misaligned with what he actually wanted. Therapy didn't resolve that overnight. But it gave him a place to think honestly about it, without feeling like he was complaining or being ungrateful for a life that looked fine from the outside.

From Dorchester, the drive to my office at 20 Berardi Crescent in Mount Elgin takes approximately 25 to 30 minutes, depending on traffic. The most straightforward route is west on Dorchester Road, then west on Highway 401 toward Woodstock, exiting at Oxford Road 59. Mount Elgin is a short drive south from there on quiet county roads. Parking is free on-site, so you don't need to plan around meters or a lot. If the drive doesn't work for your schedule -- or if you'd simply rather not add another trip to an already commute-heavy week -- virtual sessions are available and work just as well for most people. Many Dorchester clients find that doing therapy by video from home actually removes one barrier that would otherwise get in the way of starting.
Dorchester residents can access therapy through in-person sessions at the Mount Elgin practice or secure virtual appointments -- a particularly appealing option for those already commuting to London daily.
