Local Context

Why Stratford Residents Seek Therapy

Stratford is one of those towns that looks almost impossibly charming from the outside -- Victorian storefronts, swans on the Avon, world-class theatre. And that image isn't wrong, exactly. But it can make it harder for people who actually live here to admit when things aren't going well.

The Festival economy means a large portion of Stratford's workforce -- hospitality staff, front-of-house workers, accommodation operators, retail shops, restaurant crews -- spends the summer running at full tilt and then faces a real drop-off once the season ends. That boom-and-bust rhythm is financially stressful, but it's also emotionally disorienting. When the town quiets down in the fall, some people find themselves in a low they weren't expecting.

The arts community adds its own layer. There's an unspoken pressure, in a town that trades on creativity and culture, to seem like you're thriving. Struggling feels out of place next to the marquee. Many people here are good at performing fine when they're not. Stratford also has deep roots in manufacturing -- auto parts plants, food processing, agricultural supply -- and those workers carry different pressures entirely: physical fatigue, shift work, job security concerns that tend to get pushed down rather than talked about. Whatever's underneath it, therapy gives you a space where none of that performance is required.

Therapy is not about fitting you into a predetermined framework. It is about creating a space where you can explore your experiences, understand the patterns that shape your life, and discover what meaningful change looks like for you.

My approach emphasizes genuine connection, careful listening, and collaborative exploration. Together, we work at a pace that respects your comfort while gently encouraging growth.

Common Experiences

Example Situations People Bring to Therapy

Someone might begin therapy feeling overwhelmed by constant work pressure and unable to relax even during quiet moments. In therapy we might explore the patterns behind that stress and develop ways to create healthier boundaries between professional responsibilities and personal wellbeing.

Someone who's spent years building their identity around the Festival season -- the buzz, the work, the sense of purpose that comes with it -- and then finds that the off-season hits harder every year. The financial uncertainty is real, but underneath that is something harder to name: a kind of emptiness when the thing that defines you goes quiet. In therapy, we can look at what's underneath the crash, and start building a sense of self that doesn't depend on the season to feel okay.

Getting Here from Stratford

Drive Time

About 45-50 minutes

Via

Highway 7/8

Parking

Free on-site

The practice is located at 20 Berardi Crescent in Mount Elgin -- about a 45 to 50-minute drive from Stratford, heading west on Highway 7/8 toward the London area. There's free parking at the door, and the setting is quiet and residential, which most people find a relief after a longer drive. That said, about 45 to 50 minutes is a real commitment, and virtual sessions are available for all Stratford clients. A lot of people from further away actually prefer to start virtually -- you can do a session from home between shifts or on a lunch break, without the full hour-and-a-half round trip. There's no compromise in the quality of care. Some clients use virtual consistently; others come in person when they want the change of scenery. Either works.
